Janaya Clarke Flies the T&T Flag High at Barbados Junior Monarch Finals

Trinidad and Tobago’s 2026 National Junior Calypso Monarch, Janaya Clarke, proudly represented the country during a special guest appearance at the Scotiabank Crop Over Junior Monarch Finals in Barbados.

The talented young performer delivered a confident and engaging presentation before the Barbadian audience, demonstrating the poise and stage presence that helped her secure Trinidad and Tobago’s national title earlier this year.

Janaya was crowned National Junior Calypso Monarch at just 11 years old after performing “Role Models,” a socially conscious calypso encouraging leaders, parents, police officers and other influential figures to set better examples for the nation’s youth. She had also captured junior calypso titles in San Fernando and Couva during an impressive 2026 Carnival season.

Her appearance formed part of the 2026 Scotiabank Junior Monarch Finals, staged on Saturday, July 18, at CARIFESTA House. The Barbadian competition, now celebrating four decades of youth development, featured finalists competing in both calypso and soca categories.

Beyond the applause, Janaya’s performance represented an important moment of cultural exchange between Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados. It gave a young Trinidadian calypsonian the opportunity to share her voice on another Caribbean stage while connecting with fellow performers helping to preserve and develop the region’s musical traditions.

Janaya represented herself, her country and the calypso fraternity with distinction, offering another encouraging sign that the future of the Caribbean artform remains bright.
