TUCO Holds AGM as Members Call for Unity, Order and Respect for the Organization

The Trinbago Unified Calypsonians’ Organization held its Annual General Membership Meeting on Saturday, June 20th, 2026, at the V.I.P. Lounge, Queen’s Park Savannah, bringing together members of the calypso fraternity for an important day of reports, discussion and reflection on the future of the organization. Although the meeting opened with concerns over quorum and lively exchanges among members and prospective election candidates, those present agreed to proceed with the agenda. Reports were shared on TUCO’s administration, finance, welfare and more, with several members commending the work done to support calypsonians, strengthen welfare initiatives, address outstanding debts, improve operations and continue pushing the calypso artform onto regional and international stages.

A major point emphasized at the meeting was the question of representation. President Ainsley King raised concern over persons publicly claiming to speak on behalf of TUCO members, particularly on local media and social media, and the membership present was asked whether they had given anyone permission to represent them. By show of hands, members present indicated that they had not authorized anyone to speak on their behalf. While the AGM featured passionate debate and some tense moments, the wider message from the floor was a call for greater unity, better communication, stronger member participation and more respect for the organization. Members also encouraged initiatives such as improved access to reports, online participation, newsletters and renewed cultural programming, all pointing toward a desire to see TUCO move forward in a more organized, progressive and united way.
