The West Indian cultural community is mourning the passing of Derek Parsons, a Trini-Brooklyn-based broadcaster, promoter, DJ and avid supporter of Caribbean culture.
Derek founded and operated Caribbean Radio Stations (CRS), an online Caribbean radio platform known for sharing and promoting Caribbean music, interviews, news, commentary, and culture with listeners across the world.
Derek’s contribution went beyond radio. He was an avid supporter of steelpan, calypso, comedy, soca, and Trinidad and Tobago culture. From Brooklyn, he remained deeply connected to home, helping artistes, musicians, and cultural voices reach wider audiences and stages.
He represented the best of the diaspora: proud of where he came from, committed to uplifting the culture, and loved by many who knew his heart for Trinidad and Tobago.
Derek Parsons has passed away on the 23rd April 2026, but his love for the culture will continue to echo through the music, memories, and people he supported.
Rest in peace, Derek Parsons.
