Trinidad and Tobago’s 2023 Junior Calypso Monarch, A’Janae King Fraser, is showing just how far Caribbean talent can travel.
The young calypsonian was recently featured on Fox 2 News in Detroit after being part of the selection process for an entertainment industry internship connected to Usher Raymond and Chris Brown’s upcoming R&B Tour.
The internship initiative, created through Usher’s New Look in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Detroit, is designed to give young people hands-on exposure to the live touring and entertainment business. Reports describe the programme as a paid internship opportunity tied to the 2026 tour, offering selected participants access to real industry experience.
For A’Janae, the moment is bigger than one interview. It is another reminder that the discipline, confidence, and performance training developed through calypso can open doors far beyond the competition stage.
A’Janae was declared the 2023 Junior Calypso Monarch after performing “A Visionary”, representing St Francois Girls’ College.
From Trinidad and Tobago to American television, her journey is a proud moment for youth culture, calypso, and every young creative dreaming beyond borders.
