Trinidad and Tobago Calypsonians Stand Strong with Ras Iley in Barbados

Trinidad and Tobago’s calypso fraternity showed strong support for Barbadian cultural ambassador Ras Iley last weekend, as several of the country’s most respected performers joined him in Barbados for the 4th Annual Ras Iley & Friends One Caribbean Concert.

The event featured a powerful lineup of Caribbean music icons, with T&T represented by Lord Nelson, The Mighty Gypsy, Super Blue, Johnny King, Crazy, Kernal Roberts and other respected voices of calypso and soca. Their presence added deep cultural weight to the evening, turning the concert into more than a showcase. It became a celebration of friendship, regional unity and Caribbean pride.

For decades, calypso has connected the islands through storytelling, humour, social commentary and rhythm. That spirit was alive on stage as the performers reminded patrons why the artform remains one of the Caribbean’s strongest cultural bonds.

One of the most memorable moments came when Austin “Super Blue” Lyons and Winston "Gypsy" Peters were presented with a special award by Ras Iley in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Caribbean music and culture. The tribute was warmly received by the audience and stood as a proud reminder of the impact Trinidad and Tobago’s artistes continue to have across the region.

Ras Iley & Friends continues to grow as a meaningful celebration of Caribbean togetherness. By bringing legends from different islands onto one stage, the concert reinforced a powerful message: calypso and soca are more than entertainment. They are living expressions of Caribbean identity, unity and shared history.
