Stacey Sobers is preparing to bring a little theatrical glamour to the calypso stage as Crackers and Cheese returns for its ninth edition with Moulin Rouge: A Calypso Cabaret.

Set for 10th October at 7 p.m. at the Central Bank Auditorium, the production is being presented as an all-female celebration of music, theatre and dance, bringing together some familiar and respected voices from Trinidad and Tobago’s entertainment landscape.

Sobers will lead a cast featuring Terry Lyons, Mavis John, Maria Bhola, Tigress, Sally Sagram and more, with musical direction by Michelle Henry and accompaniment from the Kaiso Kaiso Encore Band. Omari Ashby will host the evening.

For Sobers, Crackers and Cheese has steadily grown into much more than a traditional calypso concert. Since its early editions, the production has used storytelling, staging and carefully curated performances to place calypso in fresh settings while still respecting the music's roots. Last year's Rhythm of a People edition explored Trinidad and Tobago's musical identity through generations of calypso and contemporary interpretation.

This year's Moulin Rouge theme appears ready to push the theatrical side of the experience even further, combining the atmosphere of cabaret with the personality, humour and storytelling that have always made calypso such a powerful live art form.
